February’s image also comes from the English Lake District and shows Lake Buttermere on a perfectly calm, winter’s day. It’s unusual to find the lake as calm as this but the near-perfect symmetry of the reflection really appealed to the sense of order that often informs my photographic endeavours. I photographed the lake over several hours until the light died and this is probably the closest I’m likely to come to enjoying a sense of meditative calm. Slowly walking around the lakeside path, amidst that glorious landscape, unhurredly composing and re-composing, was extremely satisfying.
great shot, very clean reflection
Stunning image and nice lead-in from the right leaving in the fence.gate/whatever. It fills the gap nicely.
I was down there myself last week (well, Ullswater) trying to grab an hour or two and managed to pick up 4 or 5 I was happy with myself, although none quite to that standard. It’s just such a beautiful place it really is landscape heaven.
