Travellers’ Tales Festival

The Travellers Tales Festival takes place at London’s Royal Geographical Society from 28 February to 1 March.

It’s not an event that I’ve heard of before, perhaps this is the first year? If so then the list of Guest Speakers is wildly impressive. How’s this for a list:

  • Don McCullin
  • Steve McCurry
  • Colin Thubron
  • John Simpson
  • Art Wolfe
  • William Dalrymple

Don McCullin! Seriously!

Scanning further down the list I see Lyn Hughes, editor of Wanderlust is attending together with the author of perhaps my favourite book ever, Geoff Dyer.

It’s not inexpensive, £109 for the day and £207 for the weekend but I think opportunities to hear Don McCullin speak at the same event as Colin Thubron and Geoff Dyer are few and far between. The promoters are also promising £100 of free gifts with every ticket so as long as these aren’t just money-off vouchers for package holidays that nobody wants then it could prove to be very good value indeed.

There aren’t, if I’m honest, many things that would tempt me to travel 6,000 miles back to a cold, grey, damp English winter but this event comes close. If you’re planning on attending then I hope you’ll get to hear my earliest and greatest photographic inspiration, Don McCullin, speak. If you do, perhaps you’d like to write a review of the event for this blog. I’d like to hear what it was like.
