The 2009 Foundry Photojournalism Workshop will take place in Manali in India’s Himachal Pradesh region from 26th July to 1st August.
The Foundry Workshops were created to provide a low-cost opportunity for aspiring photojournalists to practice their technique, hone their skills and to build a network of other photographers working in their field. Students get the chance to work on genuine projects during the course, to collaborate with other photographers and to produce finished multimedia presentations.
Tutors generously give their time for free and my good friend and colleague Tewfic El-Sawy, better known as the compiler of the Travel Photographer blog, is amongst well-known names like Ron Haviv, Ami Vitale and Andrea Bruce who will be teaching at the 2009 workshop.
Better still, scholarships have been announced for this year’s project. Redux Pictures will cover the tuition costs for two photojournalists and I’m delighted to see that Tewfic is also offering to support two photographers by offering scholarships. Hopeful applicants should read the straightforward application process before submitting their work for consideration and here’s wishing you the best of luck if you choose to apply.
It’s inspiring to see photographers getting together in this way to support newcomers and goes to prove, once again, that the photographic community is a spirited, generous and pro-active group.
