Objects of desire: New Canon Tilt & Shift Lenses

I suffer from gear envy less and less as time passes but I have been quietly waiting for Canon to announce the release of these two Tilt-and-Shift lenses since last summer. They won’t be available until May but the 24mm version is going straight to the top of my wish list although that 17mm version has the potential to produce some fascinating images.

The 24mm weighs in at f/3.5, whilst the 17mm is f/4. The Mark II version of the workhorse 24mm lens also comes with “Sub Wavelength Structure Coating” on the lens elements. And if you’re wondering why uttering the words “Sub Wavelength Structure Coating” finds me curiously excited then you should know that “Sub Wavelength Structure Coating” is Canon’s patented coating that reduces ghosting and flaring and that’s a nice addition to this lens.

The lenses will set you back US$2199 for the 24mm or US$2499 for the ultra-wide 17mm. Expect them to be significantly more costly in the UK.

    Thanks for that Gavin.
This is something that I have been waiting for for some time too but have been holding off buying one based on the rumours that they were due to be replaced.
Interesting option the 17mm & probably more useful for my architectural photography. I will wait to see the reviews & the difference in quality between the 17 & 24mm at the edges.
Glad I waited & haven’t just spent out on the old version. Still the price tag is pretty hefty, so I will have to start saving now!

Knowing the UK they’ll probably just swap the $ sign for a £ sign to save confusion ;) Very sexy looking lenses though it has to be said

Dang, Gavin. I was thinking about a T/S lens for this year. Did ya have to go wreck it for me by telling me about a $3000 L series lens? At this rate I’ll never be able to afford the nose job I’ve always wanted…Hope you’re well. I’m in Bangladesh for another 17 hours then heading home. Let’s chat when I’m back.
