Home again, home again…

Just about to set off for the return trip to Bangkok after a busy but really enjoyable two weeks back in the Old Country. It’s been great to catch up with friends and family and those familiar faces and places offer a sense of stability and security in my changeable world. I seem to be away from home a lot these days, so much so that it’s difficult to know exactly where “home” is. Wherever I lay my rather fetching hat, perhaps?

I didn’t manage to squeeze in everything that I wanted to and some things will have to stay on the wish list for my next trip back to this hemisphere. I’ll be heading back to Bangkok with a bulging bag of memories, a disk full of happy snaps and with my full baggage allowance taken up by jars of Marmite.

f/4, 1/1000, at 7.4mm, 100 ISO, on a Canon PowerShot G9So, before I pack up my laptop, lock up my luggage and plug myself into my iPod, here’s a quick thank you to those special people who’s company I have enjoyed so much these past two weeks. Thanks for your hospitality and your friendship. You know who you are ;)

As soon as I’ve unpacked in Bangkok I’ll commence a busy schedule of workshops, writing and teaching. The summer term of the Bangkok Photo School starts next week with three weekly classes and a host of eager new students. The list of Things To Do is reassuringly long and it’s going to be a busy few months.

Right: Passport? Tickets? Money?

Check.

“Taxi!”

Ahhh, Love the picture Gavin! I’m going over to Belgrade next month and the flight over (via MUC) is something I really look forward to as well, just for the great view you get of clouds through the window. They fascinate the life out of me and no matter how much life tells me otherwise, i’m 100% sure you can walk on them! lol. Hope you’ve got Sky back in Bangkok for wednesday night ;) happy travelling m8

Yup, safe journey, Gav. Maybe I’ll catch up with you one day when we’re both not so busy (just when exactly did you say you were going to retire?)

Hate to sound like a troglodyte, but what is Marmite?

(and the rhyme is just a happy coincidence:) )

Ian, good luck on Wednesday, it’ll be Sleep O’clock here when they kick-off, although I know that wouldn’t stop you from watching. Who knows, I may even stay up. Masher, definitely! Jack, Marmite, according to Wikipedia: “The British version of the product is a sticky, dark brown paste with a distinctive, powerful flavour, which is extremely salty and savoury with umami qualities, somewhat comparable to soy sauce.” They had a clever “love it or hate it” marketing campaign. It is, accordiong to which side of the fence you fall on, either “Yummy” or “The spawn of the Devil”. See @gavingough on Twitter for YouTube link.

I’ll be watching for sure m8, but it brings back good memories of me missing it last year and having to suffer the penalty shootout via text message lol. I just wish i’d been more awake the next day. I thought marmite was second only to pot noodle though? Frightening stuff!! If you need some twinnings earl grey sending, just let me know ;-)

Ah ha, I knew there was more than photography that we had in common – marmite!!
