Vietnam Media Tour 2009

f/2.8, 1/60 sec, at 35mm, 400 ISO, on a Canon EOS 5D Mark IISo, last week I was in Vietnam photographing as part of a media delegation. As guests of the Vietnamese National Tourism Authority we were treated especially well and although I’m generally happy as long as I have a warm bed and some means of boiling water for tea, the opportunity to stay in five-star luxury at somebody else’s expense is always very welcome.

I joined with writers and photographers representing various travel, business and leisure publications from across South-East Asia for a whirlwind trip that took us to Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hoi An, Halong Bay and finishing up in Hanoi. On the final night we were treated to an evening of entertainment by our generous host, led by Tran Chien Thang, the Minister for Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The photo above shows members of the delegation together with our Vietnamese hosts.

I’ve just finished the post-production for the trip and will publish a selection of shots from Vietnam during the rest of the week. For now, here are a few more from the last night, which was a genuine treat. The dancers, singers and musicians are among Vietnam’s very best and recruited to perform at the highest level. It was a rare treat to see such talented performers and there’s talk of a return trip for a Music Festival in 2010.

  1. You did almost the exact opposite route of my first trip to Vietnam: Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, HCMC, but there were no five star luxury hotels on my trip! It looks like an interesting experience. I can’t wait to see more of the photos.

Ah I recognise my good friend and fellow ASTW Stu Lloyed in that motley crew!

Oops, take the ‘e’ out of Stu’s name!
