“Catching Colour” photo exhibition

If you live in Bangkok then you may be interested in attending the opening of an exhibition of some of my travel photos this week. Numbers are limited so please let me know if you would like to attend and I’ll make sure we have space for you.

The exhibition, on the walls of the scrummy Exhibit Cafe, remains up for two months so if you can’t make it this week then be sure to pop by and take a look at a later date. Better still, book a table for dinner for you and a loved one (or an unloved one if that’s all you can lay your hands on), sit back and enjoy a glass or two of wine as you soak up the sumptuous colours of India, Bhutan, Manhattan, Morocco and Nepal.

"Catching Colour" photo exhibition in Bangkok

EXHIBITION OPENING

Wednesday 11th November, 2009

6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

EXHIBIT CAFE

Sukhumvit Soi 31, Bangkok

From the press release: “From Manhattan cityscapes to Nepalese night markets via Budapest, Marrakech, Rajasthan and other enchanting locations; the exhibition contains a selection of Gavin Gough’s colourful travel photographs. Each photograph in the exhibition is one of a limited edition of twenty signed prints, which are available to purchase through the venue.

Finding a reliable printer in Bangkok was something of a challenge and although printing here can be inexpensive, it’s often inconsistent. Not ideal if you want your vibrant colours to render accurately and if you prefer the detail that you’ve taken pains to capture to come across in the finished print. However, I finally found the rather excellent IQ Lab, who pulled out all the stops to produce first-class prints that I can be proud of. Indeed, I’m delighted with the results and the high-quality Lambda prints are, though I say so myself, ravishing. The detail is wonderful, the colour rendition is accurate (IQ Lab provide regularly updated profiles for matte and gloss), and the tonal transition is as smooth as my sales patter.

With the help of the lovely people at the Exhibit Cafe, I found a great local framer who’s done a terrific job of the mounting and framing. It’s such a treat to find a genuine craftsman and the fact that he turned around the complete set of prints in under forty-eight hours is something of a miracle.

We rarely get to see the results of our photographic endeavours on anything larger than a computer screen these days. Indeed, they’re often reduced to the size of a 6″x4″ print or even an iPhone screen. Whilst I’m as keen on the technology as anyone, seeing large prints in their full, high-resolution glory is a delight. So much so that I’ve decided to release the exhibition prints as limited editions. Each print is mounted and framed behind non-reflective glass and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity. Each edition is strictly limited to just twenty prints and won’t be offered again.

If you are interested in purchasing a print then please send me an e-mail, saying which print(s) you are interested in.  However, I’m also going to offer three prints as prizes:

One will go to somebody attending the opening night on Wednesday 11th November.

One will be presented to a subscriber to my Newsletter. I’ve already sent that e-mail so if you weren’t already subscribed then you won’t be eligible but you can still subscribe, ready for the next give-away.

One could go to you, dear reader. Simply click on this link to send an e-mail and you will be automatically entered into the draw for a signed, mounted, framed, limited-edition print, which will be shipped to your home – just in time for Christmas!

Available prints are shown below. Prices vary from between 6,000 Thai Baht (US$180) to 9,000 baht (US$270) and rather than list them here, I’ll let you know the price of a particular print when you contact me. Best of all, some prints form part of a set of three or four and if you buy two or three I’ll throw in the final image in the set for free. Heck, I’ll even pay for the shipping to your front door.
