Here’s a bit of good news if you’re shooting video on a 5D MKII, 7D or 1D MKIV and using Final Cut Pro to edit. The process of transferring the footage from camera to application has always been a bit fiddly, it’s all to do with formats and frame rates and if you’re looking for a full explanation of those things then you’re on the wrong web site. Suffice to say that I have relied on MediaStorm’s excellent and detailed instructions to make the transition in the past. However, Canon have announced what looks to be a rather splendid plug-in for FCP that will, I assume, save the hassle.
The EOS E1 plug-in uses FCP’s Log and Transfer functionality so that we’ll be able to mark, edit and ingest footage whilst it’s still in the camera. I say “assume” because it’s yet to go live and I’m not sure if the change in format and frame rate will be done automatically. If anyone knows…
When the EOS E1 plug-in goes live it will appear on the Apple web site.
More exciting even than the release of the EOS E1 is news of our new One-Day Creative Photography Courses at the Bangkok Photo School. These exciting, new courses will see us exploring themes such as “What makes an engaging image?” and “What do the pro’s do?”. The one-day class is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. In the morning we’ll spend time in the classroom, looking at great images and examining the elements that went into making them sing more sweetly than others. After a break where participants can enjoy the culinary delights on offer at the British Club, we’ll re-convene in time to catch the best light of the day and spend the late afternoon putting the theory into practice.
Dates: Saturday 20 February or Tuesday 23rd February
Morning: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Afternoon: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
