A postcard from Paris and news of Bangkok Photo School courses for summer 2010

I’m currently in gorgeous Paris, enjoying some great spring sunshine and have managed to find a couple of free hours to wander around with a camera and no real intention. It’s wonderfully liberating not having to shoot “to order”. No client brief, no stock image shot list and, much as I adore them all, no students.

There’s nothing quite like wandering around aimlessly, better still if it’s around the centre of Paris on a bright but chilly spring afternoon. I shot what I love for no other reason than because it made me smile. Quirky stuff. People at play, people at rest, people enjoying their time out and about as much as I was. I looked for interesting angles, great light and unusual perspectives. With no rhyme or reason, no deadline and no agenda, I find that photography is as close as I’m ever likely to come to meditation.

I’m here for a few more days before heading across the channel to the UK. Can’t stay much longer than it will take to remind some of my family what I look like before heading back to the Big Mango and preparing for the Summer 2010 courses at the Bangkok Photo School.

These courses promise to be some of the most fun ever and I’ve been working hard on creating new content that brings all the course content together and builds into a comprehensive guide to the art of photography. If you’re in Bangkok and want to register, you can book online.

I’m really looking forward to teaching this summer. It’s always a pleasure and this term promises to be no different. In fact, for various reasons, I am especially optimistic about the rest of 2010. Like many years, 2010 promised much in January and, also like many years, it’s delivering. There have already been rewarding workshops, great clients and some really enjoyable photo jobs and with tours planned to Laos, Bhutan and Burma and with trips to Nepal and Bali in the planning stage, this really is going to be a great year. Indeed, I suspect it might just be life-changing :)

Wow!Super photos. I’m curieus about how you take them. Do you always ask for permission to take the photos or is that an asian trick only? :-) Have fun (Paris is also 3 hours from our place! You can make great photos in Haarlem!)
