A very quick thank you to the photographers who made this week’s Hanoi Photo Workshops so much fun; especially Lilli, Daniel and Sue, pictured below during their individual street photography sessions; each of whom inspired me with their enthusiasm and obvious love for photography.
You’ll have heard me say before that if photography is about communicating an experience – and I believe that it is – then you need to have had the experience before you can consider photographing it. It was a real treat to spend time this week with photographers who were each naturally drawn to their surroundings, I felt confident in their sensitivity towards the local culture. My introductory speech, during which I suggest putting the camera to one side at first, was redundant this week as each of these students were clearly naturally inclined to build rapport with the people we met and to enjoy the experience before worrying about taking photographs.

I head home to Bangkok tomorrow, where I shall be taking a few days well-deserved (though I say so myself) off in order to relax, refresh and recharge. I can’t wait. However, please be sure to check this blog over the next few days for news of two new ventures that are sure to be of great interest to aspiring photographers or, indeed, anybody with a pulse. Yes, that means you!
If you haven’t already, you can sign up to receive blog updates by e-mail or subscribe to the RSS news feed.
I hope you enjoyed your last days in Hanoi, and that you arrive back in Bangkok safely. I enjoyed reading your post about the Hanoi Photo Workshops – thanks so much for your patience and all the advice and knowledge that you very generously shared throughout the day. It was a really enjoyable day for me and I am sure that I learnt a lot which hopefully I will put to good use to improve my photography in the future. And hope I will be able to get over to Bangkok to do another workshop soon….
Thanks again for everything, and so sorry again about your phone
Sue
